On Sunday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Nahida Akter’s appointment as the new T20I skipper to Cricbuzz. Sobhana Mostary is named vice-captain, and Nahida replaces Nigar Sultana.
According to Cricbuzz, Nahida Akter was chosen as the T20I captain after the Asian Games to allow Sultana to focus on her game.
Rafiqul Islam, the BCB women’s team chairman, confirmed to Cricbuzz on Sunday that Sobhana Mostary will serve as her deputy.
Rafiqul claimed that Nahida Akter, who has been the team’s vice-captain since Sultana took over as T20I captain in 2022, should be given the reins.
Rafiqul said, “We believe the time is right to give Nahida the responsibility of our T20I squad because she has been the vice-captain for a pretty long time.”
Sultana will continue to captain the ODI team, as she did during the most recent three-match ODI tour of Australia, despite having resigned as T20I captain. The BCB was taken aback by Sultana’s decision, although it is understood that the wicketkeeper-batter was unsatisfied with the board’s recent handling of her.
Bangladesh’s campaign will begin on November 12 against Pakistan at the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand.
