In Sunday’s second Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe, India’s opener Shafali Verma violated Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, earning him a formal reprimand and a penalty point.
According to an ICC statement, Shafali Verma violated “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match” under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
It was Shafali Verma first transgression in a twenty-four-month span.
In the twelfth over of Zimbabwe’s innings, Shafali Verma lost a chance at mid-off presented by Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano off Sree Charani and became enraged, throwing the ball into the ground.
There was no need for a formal hearing because Shafali acknowledged the infraction and agreed to the punishment suggested by match referee GS Lakshmi.
Level 1 infractions are punishable by a minimum of an official reprimand, a maximum of 50% of the player’s match cost, and one or two demerit points.
The third game of the three-match series, which India presently leads 2-0, is scheduled for Tuesday nite. On October 23, three ODIs will take place in Vadodara after the T20Is.
