Shubman Gill suffered an injury scare during Friday’s practice session ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies when a delivery from Mohammed Siraj damaged his elbow. The event occurred during the nets at Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium. Shubman Gill was struck on the right elbow and required treatment, which included bandaging.
Shubman Gill appeared to be in severe discomfort and required nearly 20 minutes of medical attention before returning to the nets for throwdowns. An official report on the severity of the injuries is forthcoming. There is no indication that Shubman Gill would miss the first ODI, which is scheduled for September 27.
India is preparing for a three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Shubman Gill captained the squad, with Ravindra Jadeja serving as vice-captain. Bowling coach Morne Morkel commended the captain’s leadership during the preparation stage.

Morkel underlined that team management is focused on providing opportunities for younger squad members to interact with older players. The coaching staff believes that this integration is critical to squad development ahead of the series.
West Indies arrived amid financial restructuring.
The West Indies squad arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23, but has yet to begin training as of Friday. The visiting squad confronts administrative issues at home, as Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced significant financial restructuring measures.
