The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reached an agreement with Muthoot Fincorp to sponsor the next two home seasons of Indian cricket. India’s home white-ball schedule commences with the West Indies, who will be in attendance for three ODIs and five T20Is, just days before the agreement was finalised.
It has been reported that the BCCI secured the agreement at a base price of INR 4.85 crore per match and observed that the elevated floor price discouraged a wider range of potential bidders from participating.
The inaugural ODI will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, September 27, marking the commencement of the white-ball contests. The second and third ODIs will be played on September 30 and October 3, respectively, while the T20I portion will be played from October 6 to October 17.
Shubman Gill serves as the captain of the ODI team for this series, with KL Rahul serving as his deputy. Shreyas Iyer has been assigned as the captain of the T20I team, while Tilak Varma will serve as the vice-captain.
What are the reasons for the absence of certain India regulars from the ODI squad?
Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah, four seasoned players, have been excluded from the ODI squad due to their commitments to the Asian Games. They have been rendered unavailable, which has enabled numerous players to assert their claims on an international scale.
There are two new members in the 15-member group: Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir. Ravindra Jadeja rejoins the ODI squad, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to contribute their expertise. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel have also been selected. It is worth noting that Rishabh Pant has been excluded from both white-ball squads for this series.
Who will serve as the captain of India in the Twenty20 International series against the West Indies?
Shreyas Iyer leads the T20I team in this series, with Tilak Varma serving as his deputy. The T20I group includes players such as Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, and Mayank Yadav, which is significantly different from the ODI party. It is worth noting that Axar Patel is included in the T20I squad, despite his absence from the ODI group. The sole two players who are included in both rosters for this tour are Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kuldeep Yadav.
