Jonny Bairstow has signed with the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming Big Bash League season, marking his debut in the league. The 37-year-old England international will be available for the Renegades throughout the season. Bairstow, who has represented England in all three disciplines at the highest level, offers the team a wealth of international experience.
The signing is a significant addition to the Renegades’ roster in anticipation of BBL 16. Jonny Bairstow has won two World Cups and has played in 100 Test matches for England. In addition to participating in 80 T20 internationals for his country, he has scored 3,868 runs in 107 ODIs, including 11 hundreds, at a strike rate exceeding 100.
He continued by stating that his prior experiences in Australia had influenced his reverence for the cricket culture.
Thanks to his three Ashes tours in 2013–14, 2017–18, and 2021–22, Jonny Bairstow is well-versed in the competitive traditions and cricket milieu of Australia. He acknowledged the historical context of competing in Australia by referencing previous meetings between Australian and English teams.
